Meet our Partners

The Center of Excellence is a collaboration between academic, utility, and public health partners.

PUBLIC HEALTH

Along with academic and utility partners, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) was recognized as one of the CDC National Wastewater Surveillance System Centers of Excellence in 2023.

At CDPH, the California Surveillance of Wastewaters (Cal-SuWers) program includes the Center for Infectious Diseases (CID) Wastewater Surveillance Epidemiology team and the Center for Laboratory Sciences (CLS) Drinking Water and Radiation Laboratory (DWRL), where wastewater laboratory testing is performed.

WastewaterSCAN, a philanthropically funded academic group, has been instrumental partners to the CDPH CA Surveillance of Wastewaters (Cal-SuWers) program since 2020. Principal Investigator Alexandria Boehm of Stanford University and Co-Principal Investigator Marlene Wolfe of Emory University serve as program directors for WastewaterSCAN. Through this collaboration, both universities are recognized as partners of the California WWS Center of Excellence.
